Kurt CoBONE Granny Square Crochet Pattern

Kurt CoBONE Granny Square Crochet Pattern


Supplies:


• 2-4 colors of matching weighted yarn

• Crochet hook size correlated with yarn size

• Scissors

• Darning needle (optional for sewing in ends)


Stitches (U.S. Terminology):


CH - Chain

SS - Slip Stitch

SC - Single Crochet

HDC - Half Double Crochet

DC - Double Crochet

STDC - Standing Double Crochet

TR - Treble Crochet

FPHDC - Front Post Half Double Crochet

FPDC - Front Post Double Crochet

STFPDC - Standing Front Post Double Crochet

BPDC - Back Post Double Crochet



Instructions:


Skull Head:


Color A


Round 1:


• Create a Magic Ring, STDC and 9 more DC into the magic ring.

(CH 3, DC into Magic Ring) x 2, CH 3, SS into the first DC of the round to finish.

• Pull the tail of the Magic Ring to close the circle.


Round 2:


• CH 1, SC in the first 4 stitches, 2 SC in the next stitch.

• SC in the next 5 stitches.

• SC in the first CH-3 space, SS into the next CH-3 space.

• In the second CH-3 space, CH 2, [3 DC, CH 2, SS].

• SC in the third CH-3 space, SS into the top of the first SC of the round, pulling in Color B for a color change.

• Cut Color A.



Starting the Square:


Note:

This round can be tricky, so it’s broken into 4 sections for clarity.


Round 3a:


• STFPDC, 4 FPDC, now for the first corner:

[TR, CH 2, TR] into the center of the skull.



Round 3b:


• 7 FPDC, work the second corner:

[TR, CH 2, TR] into the top stitch.



Round 3c:


• Working around the eye: 4 FPDC.

• Around the SS CH-2, 1 FPTR.

• Around the first DC of the mouth from the previous row, 1 FPHDC.

• Third corner: [DC, TR, CH 2, TR] in the second DC.



Round 3d:


• Continue working around the mouth stitches: 1 FPDC, 1 FPHDC.

• Around the CH-2 SS, 1 FPTR, 4 FPDC.

• Final corner: [TR, CH 2, TR, DC] into the top stitch.

• 1 FPDC, SS to finish the round.

• Cut Color B.

You should have 9 stitches on each side.




Square Expansion:


Attach a new color in any corner. For the following rounds, SS with a color change, alternating colors to your liking.

Tip: For a smaller square, substitute DC, FPDC, and BPDC with HDC, FPHDC, and BPHDC.


Round 4:


• In the corner: STDC, DC.

(9 BPDC, [2 DC, CH 2, 2 DC] into corner) x3.

• 9 BPDC, 2 DC into the final corner, CH 2, SS into the top of STDC with a color change.



Round 5:


• In the corner: STDC, 1 DC.

(1 FPDC, 11 BPDC, 1 FPDC, [2 DC, CH 2, 2 DC] into the corner) x3.

• 1 FPDC, 11 BPDC, 1 FPDC, 2 DC into the final corner, CH 2, SS into the top of STDC with a color change.





Round 6:


• In the corner: STDC, 1 DC.

(17 FPDC, [2 DC, CH 2, 2 DC] into the corner) x3.

• 17 FPDC, 2 DC into the final corner, CH 2, SS with a color change to finish the round.



Round 7:


• In the corner: STDC, 1 DC.

(4 FPDC, 13 BPDC, 4 FPDC, [2 DC, CH 2, 2 DC] into the corner) x3.

• 4 FPDC, 13 BPDC, 4 FPDC, 2 DC into the final corner, CH 2, SS into the top of STDC with a color change.




Round 8:


• In the corner: STDC, 1 DC.

(25 FPDC, [2 DC, CH 2, 2 DC] into the corner) x3.

• 25 FPDC, 2 DC into the final corner, CH 2, SS to finish.



Finishing:


• Cut and sew in all ends.

Pro Tip: Block or stretch your stitches as you go to prevent curling.


Your Kurt CoBONE Granny Square is complete! You can adjust the size by changing yarn or hook size. Have fun with color combinations to make it truly unique!
